Public Service Announcement DATE: March 12th, 2020 RE: Follow-up to Gov. Inslee’s Message TO: Morton School District Staff, Students, and Community Members Today at 2:00 PM Governor Inslee announced a directive to close K-12 schools in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties from March 16th through April 24th. Districts in these counties can continue to provide food services, instructional programs (not in large group settings), and are asked to provide child-care services to health care and first responders. Morton School District, Lewis County, and the rest of the state will continue to be monitored as this decision may grow over time to affect others. The decision will be based on the spread of the virus and the rates of confirmed cases.

Public Service Announcement DATE: March 11th, 2020 RE: Potential School Closure and District Action TO: Morton School District Staff, Students, and Community Members This morning Governor Jay Inslee and state health officials held a press conference in response to the latest data concerning COVID-19. During his remarks, he specifically stated that schools, including ours, are preparing for potential school closure and the various ramifications this could lead to. We have been planning our action steps and as more information and recommendations come in, we will respond to those as appropriate. Gov. Inslee and others continue to state that we should expect within the near future, potentially days, guidance on what actions the State may take. What you need to know at this time: School is operating as normal without any changes to our schedule or events. Planning on how to address potential recommendations are already underway with more to come. We are committed to keeping everyone in the loop with what we know, but at this time we are getting the same information as each of you. If a potential school closure does occur, we will do what is necessary for our kids to continue to reach their academic, social, and emotional goals.
