To foster a safe and modernized learning environment, our school board recognizes the importance of investing in improving our educational facilities. In February 2024, a bond proposal is being put forth to the voters within the Morton School District boundaries.
Construction of a Transportation Shop:
One of the primary endeavors is constructing a transportation shop, coupled with a related office and parking facility behind the Jr/Sr High School. With an allocated budget of $3,300,000, this initiative aims to provide a dedicated space for maintaining and managing the school's transportation fleet. This facility would provide an essential location and purposefully designed structure and location to address the needs of maintaining a transportation fleet. The facility would be located on current district property behind the current Jr/Sr High School, but away from our students.
Renovation of the Existing Elementary School:
A substantial portion of our investment, totaling $9,700,000, is directed toward renovating the existing elementary school. This comprehensive endeavor involves structural upgrades to meet current building codes, replacement of roofing, windows, and HVAC systems, and enhancements in lighting, power systems, and architectural finishes like flooring, painting, and ceilings. These renovations address safety and regulatory needs, and provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for our young learners.
Furthermore, it is crucial to note that a significant portion of the renovation costs, approximately $3,600,000, is anticipated to be covered by state funding assistance. This collaborative effort with state resources ensures that the project can be executed with minimal financial burden on the local community, bringing the total project cost to $13,300,000.
New Amenities for the Intermediate School:
Allocating $1,000,000 towards the intermediate school, this initiative aims to develop a new playground, fencing, and a covered play area. Recognizing the importance of recreational spaces in fostering physical activity and social development, these enhancements contribute to a more holistic educational experience for intermediate school students.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the proposed investments in constructing a transportation shop, renovating the existing elementary school, and developing new amenities for the intermediate school reflect our commitment to providing an optimal learning environment for all students. These projects address immediate infrastructure needs and pave the way for a sustainable and future-focused educational landscape. As stewards of education, we must make prudent investments that will shape the educational experiences of generations to come.
